AFG Program Office Posts Workshop Schedule for FY 2007 Assistance to Firefighter Grants

Each year the AFG regional staff conducts hundreds of workshops nationwide to provide up to date AFG grant information to applicants. The workshops are scheduled and conducted by AFG regional representatives and offer current program information for any fire and/or EMS organization that wishes to submit a 2007 AFG application. The workshop schedule can be added to or revised over the next six weeks; users are encouraged to visit the web site more than once to verify dates, locations and times.

There is no admittance charge to any AFG workshop. The schedule provides important information about the conduct of the workshops, including points of contact. If you are unable to attend a workshop offered in your area, the program office will be providing an electronic copy of the PowerPoint presentation used at the workshops on the AFG website. In addition, by mid-February, the applicant tutorial, the FY 2007 AFG Program Guidance, and a list of Frequently Asked Questions will be available on this website. Pennsylvania Governor Says " New System Streamlines Hazardous Chemical Reporting"

Posted On: Jan 25, 2007 (21:45:05)

Governor Edward G. Rendell yesterday announced the launch of a new online reporting system to improve public safety and better help emergency responders take care of incidents involving harmful substances.

The new Pennsylvania Tier II Reporting System (PATTS) will store vital information about the presence of harmful substances stored and/or used at facilities and businesses throughout the commonwealth. Before PATTS, information was provided through paper reports and created delays in processing.

"In hazardous chemical situations, seconds count," Rendell said. "Knowing where chemicals are kept and how they're used can save lives. PATTS will help ensure that emergency management personnel can readily access crucial information they need to best serve Pennsylvanians."

Created by the Department of Labor and Industry's Bureau of PENNSAFE, PATTS allows businesses to report the location, type and quantity of hazardous materials they have online. It also provides the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with secure, 24-hour access to the data. PATTS data can be revised only by authorized business personnel and is viewable only by PENNSAFE and PEMA officials.

According to the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986, any facility that stores or uses reportable quantities of a hazardous material must report it within five days of its arrival.
