Group 2 gets an early morning all hands wake up call.
On Wednesday November 30, 2011 Luzerne County 911 dispatched HFD to a structure fire with entrapment at 220 E Chestnut St. in the city, at around 6:02 am. Eng. 2, Eng. 4, Tower 1, Chief 3, responded. During response Dispatch reported they were getting multiple calls and there were at least 5 people trapped on the roof with the possibility of more trapped inside. Off Duty Chief 2 (Jones) arrived first and called a working fire with indeed multiple people on the roof. Eng. 4 arrived next and with help from the Hazleton Police crews started to bring people off of a porch roof with a ladder. The occupant’s insisted that more people were still trapped on the third floor. Tower 1 arrived and their crew entered the home and started a primary search. At this time all hands on scene were working an additional tone for man power was transmitted. Eng. 2 arrived and established a water supply. Chief 3 used an air & water to knock down the kitchen until a line could be placed in service. A hand line was placed in service from Eng. 4 and the fire was completely extinguished and overhauled. The fire was placed under control at 6:15 am. PSP fire marshal’s office assisted with origin & cause investigation. The fire was found to originate on the stove top and has been ruled accidental. In all 8 people were rescued, 7 were transported and one person was air lifted to a trauma center.
