Group 2 with a morning High Rise fire 6-20-11

Chief 3 received a cell phone call from the maintenance supervisor at 70 S. Pine St. notifying him that there was heavy smoke condition in apartment 702. Chief 3 had notified Luzerne County 911 to dispatch all units to 70 S. Pine St for a fire in apartment 702. At 08:36hrs. Chief 3 Eng. 3 Eng. 2 Eng. 4 Ladder 1 Medic 11 responded. Upon arrival crews were met by the super and had light smoke coming from the window on div 7, B / C corners. Crews went into the building and once at the apartment opened the door to find a heavy smoke condition after they got the occupant out, crews used an air & water to extinguish the fire. The second crews in took PPV fans and high rise bags to the fire floor. Chief 2 (S. Jones) had command of the fire floor and placed the PPV fans in service to clear the smoke but did not need to put a line in service. The apartment occupant was treated on scene by Medic 11 and refused transport.   

Second to suppression and overhaul the Hazleton fire department investigated the origin and cause. At this time the fire is listed as accidental due to carless smoking.

Units on the Box   C-1, 2, 3(command) Eng. 2, Eng. 3, Eng. 4,  Ladder 1, and Medic 11 X 2 units.
