Hazleton Fire Department responded to 16 calls in less than 24 hours Friday.
12:57-1:25 a.m. -598 N. Manhattan Court. Carbon monoxide alarm caused by a chimney problem.
12:59-1:15 a.m. - 70 S. Pine Street. Firefighters assisted an ambulance crew on a medical call to help emergency medical technicians respond to a patient.
1:35-2:30 a.m. - 600 N. Laurel St. An employee at an assisted living home at the address reported smelling smoke. Firefighters found an electric heater shorted out and caused a wall to catch fire, causing minor damage.
3:29-4 a.m. - Church St., between Chestnut and Juniper streets. A vehicle hit a utility pole.
6:51-8:24 a.m. - 658 Emerald Court. Pumped out a flooded basement.
10:45-11:20 a.m. - 520 S. Poplar Street. The rear wall of a building already condemned in Hazleton fell due to heavy rain. No injuries reported.
10:57-11:39 a.m. - 318 W. 15th St., flooded basement, pumping detail.
10:59 a.m.-12:14 p.m. - McKinley Castle, pumping detail.
12:08 p.m. - South Cedar and East Mine streets, hazardous materials, call for an ammonia leak. (Still in Progress as of 3/14/11)
12:13-12:30 p.m. - Seventh and Hayes streets, car fire. No injuries reported.
12:15-12:26 p.m. - 70 S. Pine St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters responded to find burnt food on a stove set off the alarm.
12:17-12:53 p.m. - 21st and Church streets. Two-vehicle crash. One patient transported to Hazleton General Hospital.
2:31-2:55 p.m. - 328 E. Mine Street. A girl called her mother reporting that a gas leak was in the neighborhood. Turned out there was a miscommunication and the girl was referencing the ammonia vapor leak. Firefighters still responded to check the home for a leak, but none was found.
2:59-8:30 p.m. - 602-604 and 606-608 James Street, on the corner of Fifth Street. Two residential buildings on fire. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire in both buildings.
5:58-6:07 p.m. - 569 Peace Street. Firefighters responded for a call of smoke in the neighborhood, but it turned out to be smoke rising from the James Street fire.
9:01-9:34 p.m. - 598 N. Mahattan Court. Carbon monoxide call.
