Group 2 has a small fire in a garage at Beltz & Petrilli Funeral Home

At 17:09 Luzerne County 911 dispatched the department to a reported structure fire smoke showing from the rear of that building in Spruce Alley. Off Duty Corporal John Leonard from the Hazleton Police Department was the caller reporting the fire. Crews arrived on scene and were told of the fire in the rear of the building. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and started to ventilate the structure of thick black smoke. Damage was contained to the corner of the garage were the fire started, however the whole building had received a small amount of smoke damage.

Second to suppression and overhaul the fire department conducted an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. It was found that a light weight extension cord plugged into the old worn power cord to the soda machine had heated up and caused a pile of vehicle funeral flags and signs to ignite. The fire is listed as accidental caused by a warn cord and a over powered extension cord.

There were no injuries to any firefighters or building occupants. Units were released and returned to service at 18:05.
