FIRE DAMAGES APARTMENT BUILDING IN THE CITY

Crews were dispatched to the 500 block of Seybert St. for a reported residential structure fire. DC Mandak who was a block away advised units responding of smoke in the area and requested another dispatch. Mandak arrived to find a porch fire and was advised of an infant still trapped in the residence, Mandak advised responding units of the additional information. City Engine 2, started suppression and the operator of Ladder 1 with the chief from the Diamond Fire Company made entry and did a primary search with negative results. Crews pulled the buildings exterior wall coverings and went back to service. Crews were assisted by APTS.

TWO
INJURIED IN MOTOCYCLE CRASH

On at 1607 Hrs. the Hazleton Fire Department along with
Medic
11 were dispatched to the area of 3rd and Grant streets for a motor vehicle
accident with injuries. Additional information given as involving a motorcycle.
Engine - 2 arrived on location with HPD already there to find a mini-van
struck by a motorcycle in the passenger's front quarter with damage above
the front tire and on the hood. The motorcycle landed about 5 to 10 feet
from the mini-van and had partially disintegrated. Both riders were thrown
from the motorcycle with the operator landing 10 to 15 feet from the bike
and was ambulatory with shoulder pain upon our arrival. The female passenger
was thrown about 40 to 50 feet from the motorcycle and was found seated
on the curb with road rash over a fair portion of her extremities.
Both occupants were wearing helmets which probably saved both of their
lives. Both riders were transported to HGH-ER by APTS, Medic 11. No one
from the mini-van was injured. All units were placed available and returning
at 1656 Hrs.

QUICK
WORK BY CITY FIREFIGHTERS CONFINES FIRE TO ONE ROOM

Crews were notified of a fire in an apartment building.
While responding units were notified of heavy smoke on all floors. Upon
arrival of first due apparatus, crews found a room incontinent fire on
the first floor. Crews made entry and extinguished the fire with
in minuets of dispatched. Overall was completed and the hole building
had to be vented. Crews stayed on scene for an hour and half. No injuries
were reported and APTS ambulance assisted on scene with rehab.

NORTHSIDE KITCHEN FIRE KNOCKED DOWN BY HOME OWENER

City fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 229 W. Fourth St. Eng. 2 arrived to find occupants exiting and light smoke condition showing. Crews entered the home to find a stove that was on fire still smoldering. The home owner had put it out with a portable fire extinguisher. Crews vented the home and checked for extension. The burnt stove was removed to the outside of the home. All units were released and returned to service.

FIRE DESTROYS CAR IN CENTER CITY

Hazleton Fire and Medic 11 initially dispatched at 1230 hrs. for a vehicle
fire at 42 W Green, but upon arrival and nothing found received an updated
location of James and Green Sts (7 blocks away). Upon arrival found a
early model Cadillac with heavy fire in the engine compartment spreading
to the interior. Fire quickly knocked down by duty firefighter and the
chief . Total on-scene time 45 minutes.

fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire. While crews were responding,
DC Brian Mandak was notified of multiple calls on the fire. Mandak arrived
to find fire venting through side A of the building. Mandak, advised all
units that’s the department was taking a defensive stance due to
the floor being burnt out. Mandak notified city police for there Arson
detective, the joint investigation determined an incendiary fire and are
looking for leads. Crews stayed on scene till early morning.

SCOTT SCBA HAVE ARRIVED!!!!

after ordering the new Scott scba they have arrived. Training has been
started on the new scba and shall be in service shortly. Chief Leshko
and a few members of the department just returned from FDIC in Indianapolis,
where Scott has welcomed us into their family.

FIRE ON THE SOUTHSIDE

At 16:54hrs City fire department was dispatched to 320
S Wyoming St for a vehicle fire. Engine 4 responded with group 3
who worked dayshift. Engine 4 arrived to find a vehicle with its
engine compartment fire. Crews were met by volunteers on scene and extinguished
the fire. Crews were on scene for 20 minutes. DC Jones was the officer
on scene.

HAZLETON CITY CHOOSES SCOTT TO REPLACE SCBA

A decision was made this week to purchase the SCOTT AP75. The committee has spent a lot of time evaluating the 2007 NFPA compliant air packs. During the evaluation process, the committee had the opportunity to research all aspects of the air packs. The biggest concerns were the cost of maintenance, warranty and dependability. The new air packs will arrive in the next few weeks. The city fire department would like to thank everyone that helped make this difficult decision and the other manufacturers that took their time to demonstrate their products.

CREWS MAKE QUICK WORK OF BASEMENT FIRE

City fire department dispatched to a basement fire in the northwest side of the city. Engine 2 arrived to find smoke coming from side A. Firefighters were met by occupants who advised them everyone was out of the residence and the fire was on the 623 side in the basement. First arriving firefighters entered with a can and knocked down the fire until a line could be put in place. Crews entered with an additional line to protect the first floor. The fire was contained to the basement with some extension. A HPD detective and a State Police Fire Marshal were on scene assisting fire officials with investigating the origin and cause.

BROAD STREET APARTMENT BUILDING DAMAGED BY FIRE

City fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 400 block of West Broad St. DC Mandak arrived on scene and was met by people reporting that there was entrapment on the 3rd floor of a funeral home. Mandak advised responding units of a working structure with entrapment. Ladder 1 arrived and positioned on A-B corner of the building. Engine 4 arrived positioning on the A-D side, crews started pulling lines to find out that an apartment building in the rear of Broad Street was on fire. Crews were sent to the 3rd floor of the front building and removed the resident. Ladder 1 reposition to Mine St., side C crews laddered the building to gained access to the 2nd floor and started opening up. The fire got above crews and started extending to a second structure. 2 additional engines and the cities tiller were placed in-service. Mandak request Engine 3 to the scene to supply the Ladder to protect the exposures. Crew made a nice stop on the apartment building with the building on B-1, received some damage to a display area for the funeral home. Crews remained on scene till early morning. All 5 city station, A PSP fire marshal and ambulances from APTS and Freeland were on scene.

CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES GRANT FOR SCBA

The City Fire Department received a Homeland Security Grant to replace there 10 year old SCBA’s. A committee has been meeting and will make a decision on an air pack. The Committee has reviewed all three companies that have been approved by the NFPA to meet their 2007 standard. The city continues to evolve.

CREWS MAKE GRAB AND QUICK HIT

Around 7:30am, this morning crews were notified of a structure fire in the 300 block of East Diamond Ave. While crews were responding, they were notified by Freeland Ambulance Chief that there was a working fire on Division 1 side A. Engine 4 with personnel from group 3 that were coming off shift, arrived and started fire attack, crews pull a 1 ¾” line and extinguished the fire. While crews were working in the front, a second crew from Engine 2, Ladder 1 and a number of volunteers entered the rear of the building and started a primary search. The search crew made its way to the second and removed an elderly male. The pt was taken to HGH for treatment by APTS ambulance. Engine 4 remained on scene while DC Jones and a State Police Fire Marshall determined origin and cause.

The fire department was sent to Carson st. for a reported structure fire. When crews arrived they were notified of a fire in the Kitchen. A crew entered to find a small fire and was extinguished.
